Fantastic, Jim. My favorite line: "My wife says she’s nearly blind, but she’s just made a maple leaf quilt that’s good-looking work for a blind woman."

It is disappointing to get so few "comments" - No doubt it is a pain in the nether regions to log in and comment.
The title of this entry: "Now, don't quote me on this" spins off the Coolidge press conference. "Silent Cal" held more presidential press conferences than any other president. Reporters could not quote him directly. However, he would provide considerable background information. It may be he saw where direct quotation would lead. To a cat and many mouse game where reporters try to get the president to say something stupid and - that - Then becomes the lead story for the day. In other words: The modern presidential press conference.

The correction is made while noting that President Andrew Jackson said: "It is a poor man who knows but one way to spell a word."

That's a lovely post, Jim. My father would request that you to spell Stef's name thus: Stefansson (son of Stefan in the Icelandic).

There's much more of Resa's art at http://resablatman.com

Of course, you are right. My brother died July 11, too. I don't know what I was thinking; it would seem I wasn't thinking. Thank you!

My father died 11 July, not April, and it'll be the 22nd anniversary this year (d. 1989). I thought he would hold out til the bicentenary of Bastille Day, but it wasn't to be. He was also very interested in dates and synchronicity.

Reading about this program has inspired me to create a similar event, with women - abolitionists women antebellum America, whether they supported the movement directly or indirectly. My passion is to bring to the public a rich portrayal of historical characters through interactive dramatization - bring history to life at museums, historic sites, and other public venues of a wide array of previously untapped primary sources.

I recently performed at the Norman Rockwell Museum - "I Can't Die but Once." Harriet Tubman Civil War. I incorporated an audience member into the program, by having him read a letter that Bvt. Brig General Rufus Saxton a friend of Harriet Tubman. Found out that he was a relative of the General. During the Q/A another man stood open and thank me for including his relative - great-great-great grandfather, he responed by saying, "I feel so proud of my grandfather that he was a friend of Harriet and I thank you for bringing it out," - Wow...that made it all worth while!

So I include the audience in the performance with several of my characters and found this to be most valuable. Not all my characters, but the ones where it makes the most sense to do so and have a positive impact on the performance.
